  1. Short: Automated front-end for Portal
  2.  
  3. This is PortalX 1.30 written by Steve Tibbett.  It requires
  4. the Amiga OS 2.04 or higher to run.  PortalX is an automated
  5. Amiga-specific front-end for The Portal Online System, run by
  6. Portal Communications of Cupertino, CA USA.  On Portal is the
  7. Amiga Zone, a resource for Amiga owners which contains over 1 GIG
  8. of Amiga-specific files of all description, message bases catering
  9. to Amiga users, over 20 Amiga vendors who maintain their own support
  10. areas for current and prospective customers, live nightly multi-
  11. person chats, and a very large number of "famous" Amigans whose
  12. names you will know.

  14. Besides the Amiga Zone, Portal offers many other goodies including
  15. zillions of Usenet newsgroups, your own Internet email box,
  16. ClariNet/UPI newsfeed service, a menu-driven "Internet Services"
  17. area, UNIX shell accounts, and dozens of other SIGs catering to
  18. a wide variety of interests.

  20. PortalX can only be truly useful if you have an account on Portal.
  21. However it is not crippled in any way, and you can play around with
  22. it to get a feel for its utility, but you won't be able to make
  23. it login and actually DO anything on Portal unless/until you get your
  24. own Portal account.

  26. But, while running PortalX, chose the "read mail" button to read a long
  27. and informative file about Portal which will answer virtually any
  28. question you could possibly want to ask about the service.

  38. Note: Registered users (those who paid SteveX the requested
  39. shareware fee) already have PortalX 1.40, and another higher
  40. version is already in Beta test.  Registered users will always
  41. be one version ahead of non-registered users. You get a newer
  42. version of PortalX (after registering) by logging into Portal
  43. and downloading it.
